Superb views in the Arrochar Alps from the top of Ben Vane

Back to the Arrochar Alps to climb Ben Vane (Munros Completed : Ben Vane (36)).

Tackling Ben Vane.

2010/12/30 : The start of Ben Vane is the same as for Ben Vorlich. There is a well defined track which was mostly covered in snow in places & devoid in others, but this was an easy route to follow. The higher I climbed and as the morning progressed, the more the cloud lifted & the vis was for miles – fantastic ! As the guidebook states, Ben Vane has a number of false summits, I counted 6, but the route is pleasant enough.

The climb becomes even better nearer the top, with lots of snow and a little exposure with steep sides. The cloud base was ~ 800m so the summit view wasn’t amazing but at least was about 50m. As the afternoon wore on, the cloud almost completely disappeared with about 70% blue sky with long amazing views. I could see as far as Loch Lomond to the South. The Munro tops however, just remained in cloud.
